Blog Challenge-Week 3-Leaving Footprints

This week, the blog challenge was about digital footprints. These footprints are basically what you are doing online (for example, your footprint might not be that great if you left a mean comment on a picture/post etc.) I chose to do Activity 9, in which we had to make something that showed the advantages and disadvantages of being able to connect easily online. I have made a comic:

Blog Challenge-Week 2-It’s a small world

This week, I chose to do activity 1, in which we had to create an avatar and upload it to be our profile picture, and activity 5, which was an optional activity to work on if we had time. In activity 5, we had to create  story of a small animal. Here’s my story!

••••••••••••••••An Insects Life••••••••••••••••

One sunny, spring morning in Insectville, a monarch butterfly named Madeline laid an egg. She said something to a butterfly named Claudia, and then flew away. None of the other insects noticed this, since they were all doing their own work. This doesn’t mean that other creatures outside of Insectville were’t watching, because a very sly spider was perched on his web, gazing out over Insectville. He thought to himself, “Ah, it’s almost lunchtime. Time to start looking for yummy treats!” He scoured the area for a meal, when something caught his eye. “Why, today is my lucky day! I’ll be able to capture a fresh laid butterfly egg!” he said.

Little did he know that Claudia, who happened to be a painted lady butterfly and a mind reader, was monitoring what their predators were planning. The sly spider continued on, and eventually came to the milkweed plant, where Claudia flew up and scared the spider. After all the commotion ended, Claudia noticed that the little larva inside the egg was giggling. She decided to name the baby Hilary, which means “cheerful”.

When Hilary crawled out of her egg, the Claudia was the first one she saw, and Hilary immediately assumed she was her mother. The spider also saw this moment, and he was going to try again. As usual, Claudia was surveying her surroundings and found out that the spider was planning to attack again. This butterfly was a wise one; she went up to her friend, Violet the Viceroy butterfly. Violet was a distant cousin of Madeline, so she looked almost like her, but she was a different species. The other difference between the two, was that Madeline was poisonous, while Violet was not. Claudia asked Violet to act like Madeline, and since Violet was an expert on mimicry, she agreed.

When the spider approached, Violet pretended she was Madeline and hovered around Hilary. The spider stopped in his tracks, because he had a vision, of the day when a butterfly found him playing dead on the ground. When she touched him, he started to laugh. He stood there for a period of time, and then he just stared at Violet. Violet stared back, and then fluttered to the ground. She said to the spider, “Mark, is that you?” “Um, yes. How do you know me?” replied the spider. “You’re the spider that ran away from me,” Violet answered. Mark just stared in shock. After a while, he went up to Claudia, “Please forgive me. I never realized who I was until now. I will never try to eat…” “Her name is Hilary,” answered Claudia. “Yes. Cute, little Hilary,” confirmed Mark.

As the years passed by, Hilary grew up and became a beautiful monarch butterfly. Another surprising thing that happened was…Mark became a very close friend of Hilary’s! After he made a commitment to not harm Hilary, he realized that there are lots of other things to be doing, rather than being evil.

Blog Challenge-Week 10-Final Challenge

1. How many posts did you write?

I wrote 20 posts on my blog; all the student blog challenges (including this one), survey’s, and other posts that were various topics.

2. How many were school based, your own interests or set by the challenge?

School based: 16 (includes Student Blogging Challenges)
My own interests: 3

3. How many comments did you receive from classmates, teachers or overseas students?

I received 2 comments on my blog. They were both on the post I did about “Tap Water VS Bottled Water”, and by classmates.

4. Which post received the most comments? Why do you think that happened?

The “Tap Water VS Bottled Water” post received the most comments. I think this happened because the people who commented had not used Powtoon before, which was the program I used in that post.

5. Which post did you enjoy writing the most and why?

The post I enjoyed writing the most is blog challenge week 6. This was the most interesting because I chose to do activity 6, in which we had to write a post in my native language. This was fun because I got to do something on my blog that wasn’t in English.

6. Did you change blog themes at all and why?
I did change the blog theme. I did this because the first one that I had was “Borderline Chaos”. I changed the background image because I wanted it to be a design, and not just a solid colour. I also had to change the whole theme because my widgets were blocking my posts, so it was hard to read them.

7. How many widgets do you have? Do you think this is too many or not enough?

I have 10 widgets. I think that I have a good amount because my widgets don’t go too far down that they go even past all my posts. If I had a few extra animal widgets, then that would also be fine.

8. How many overseas students do you have on your blogroll?

I don’t have any oversea students on my blogroll, but I do have 2 of my classmates. I also have a link to our class blog.

Blog Challenge-Week 9-Part B

Here is what makes a great blog:

This week, we also had to nominate a blog for the Edublogs Awards. I chose to nominate a class blog. The blog that I chose is “Miss Taylor’s Class 2013-14”. Here are some good things about this blog:

  • They posted lots of things that they were doing in their class.
  • They had sites to every kid in their class’ blog
  • They had other sites that they might have used in their class
  • They had a few widgets that counted who visited their blog and where they were from

Here is the URL of this blog:

You can visit this blog anytime you want.

It will be very interesting to find out who wins this year!

Enjoy!

Blog Challenge-Week 9-Narrative

This week, I made a narrative as my best blog post. I have the whole story, and I have also put it into a comic. Hope you enjoy it!

My mom is a MONSTER!

Once there lived a woman whose name was Jane and was a mother to 3 kids-John, Sara and George.  She was very kind and helpful during the day, but when the sun set and the kids were sound asleep, she turned into an EVIL MONSTER!

Jane’s eyes turned from a peaceful blue to a spooky green. Her hair turned from a soft brown to a faded white. This was not normal for a human, but when she was young, one of the members from the CHC (Creepy Humans of Carsem) club had inserted a special device in her. She turned this way every night, but no one noticed. Jane would never talk about it because she never remembered what happened during the night.

One day, when the kids woke up, all the trees around them had fallen. Nobody knew how. There had been no notice of a storm, but that was the only possible answer, so everyone thought that, including Jane-but John still thought that there was something fishy about it.

That night, John had a bad dream so he went to his mother’s room-but strangely she wasn’t there. So he went to his sibling’s rooms. He woke them up-at least tried to! George wouldn’t wake up, so he just told his sister, Sara the story. After listening to it, Sara said, “You’re mistaken. It was probably just thunder.”John sighed, “What should I do now? Maybe Sara’s right. I should just go to sleep.” A little while later, John heard the sound again. This time, his sister had heard it too. She came in his room and told him, “We’re going to investigate,” and left him no time to think about it.

Soon, they were busy sneaking around outside. “I think the thing is gone,” said John. Just as he said that, they heard it again. “It’s coming from that way!” exclaimed Sara. “Now that way!” said the excited yet exhausted John. They kept doing that until they saw a quick glimpse of the creepy monster. Then they saw more of it. “Doesn’t that look a bit like mom?” questioned Sara. “It really does!” replied John. “No…wait…that can’t be…she has brown hair and blue eyes; not white hair and green eyes,” murmured Sara.

“What are you talking about?” asked John. “I really think that IS mom,” replied his sister, shocked. “Now that you think about it, you might be right; she wasn’t here when I woke up,” said John. His surprised sister replied, “Then why didn’t she tell us about it? That is the only question, though. Everything else makes sense. Let’s go back now. We can tell her tomorrow morning.”

Here is the comic….

Blog Challenge-Week 6-Our World

There are lots of people in the world that don’t speak English. I am not one of them, but Gujarati is the second language that I speak. It originates from a state in India, called “Gujarat”. My parents and grandparents also speak it.

The outlined part is Gujarat.

In this post, I am going to tell you about my ancestors in 2 languages.

English

Hello, my name is Aashi. In this post I am going to talk about my ancestors. All of my 4 grandparents were born in Gujarat, India.
My parents were also born there. My parents are the first people in my family to immigrate to Canada. There are lots of food that my family and I eat, that my ancestors used to eat. There are also cultural events that we celebrate that date back lots of years ago.
This is a bit about my ancestors.

Blog Challenge-Week 5-Human Rights

EVERYONE HAS RIGHTS!

Everyone in the world has rights. Here are some examples of them:

Everyone has the right to…

  • Not be a slave
  • Have their privacy
  • Live anywhere they want; no matter what religion they are or how they look/talk/act
  • Make decisions for themselves
  • Have and accomplish their dreams
  • Have food, water, and shelter
  • Speak a different language; Not just the national one for the country you live in
  • Be respected by others
  • Have free, clean and safe drinking water
  • Have clothing
  • Have free education for boys and girls
  • Practice their religion

Everyone in the world doesn’t have all the rights listed above. If everyone did, that would be one of the steps to make the world PERFECT.

Blog Challenge-Week 4-USA Shutdown

“Hello. This is Aashi, reporting live from Washington. There is a tremendous shutdown going on here. Tons of employees are losing jobs. An employee working at Wal-Mart is ‘jobless’. How did this even happen?”

Employee: “Well, Obama and the Republicans don’t have an agreement on how much money they have/we get. Since they haven’t made a decision, they don’t have any money for our salaries.”

“Why aren’t they agreeing on how much money should be kept?”

Employee: “This is because the republicans said that for Obama’s idea to be kept, he would have to do some changes to ‘Obamacare’. Barak Obama didn’t agree with this.”

“What is ‘Obamacare’?”

Employee: “‘Obamacare’ is like medical insurance.”

“Where is the shutdown going on?”

“It’s going on throughout USA at about every store.”

Me: “Wow! That’s a lot of jobs being lost. So that was Amelia, who is one of the millions of people who are jobless. Back to you.”
